Welcome to the Weekly Reads, where I highlight articles that I found on the web and that are focused on career advice, lifestyle, beauty or anything I think would round up as useful for the young, modern, working woman. So get yourself comfortable, pour a cup of coffee and enjoy this week’s reads!
Practice makes perfect. If you are having a job interview soon because you are planning to switch/find jobs or you just want to check what else is out there, then you should really check this article from The Cut on How to prepare for a job interview: The ultimate guide. The trick is to think about the interview as a “collaborative business meeting” – which I think is very smart, because that’s what it truly is – where both you and the interviewer are there to make out the best out of it and understand whether it makes sense for the “business to be closed”. This will make you feel less nervous and will ensure you know what you are getting into – the last thing you want is to get into job that is not what it seemed to be. I already I already wrote a post about questions to ask at an interview which I think it’s a crucial part of the interview and something that actually helps you to understand the “other business side”; you don’t need to get the job no matter what and blindly, but you actually need to figure out if it makes sense for you.
Salary stories. My Salary Story from Refinery 29 is where women with long-term careers share their stories and their salary details over the years as well as some advice and lessons they learned along the way. It’s always interesting to get a sneak peek into other people’s careers and to be honest, also into their salaries, as it helps understand what else is out there.
Splurge. If you are looking for a great housewarming gift or you just want to splurge a little on yourself, the Aesop kits are the perfect thing. This Resurrection duo that comes with a hand cleanser and a hand balm is the perfect gift for yourself or a friend. The Sway set also looks great and it includes a body wash and balm besides the hand wash and balm.
Know yourself. Self awareness is such an underrated quality. Most likely, the people you look up to the most are the ones really excelling at this: they know themselves, they know how to carry themselves in any situation and they most likely exude confidence – something that is attainable with a high dose of self-awareness. Truth is, you can and should also cultivate your own self-awareness by taking time to really understand yourself, what you like and dislike, reflect on your past actions and future goals as well as practicing mindfulness. Self awareness it truly is a superpower, and it will only get you closer to where and who you want to be.
