Weekly Reads – April 10th

Welcome to the Weekly Reads, where I highlight articles that I found on the web and that are focused on career advice, lifestyle, beauty or anything I think would round-up as useful for the young, modern, working woman.

The Weekly Reads are perfect for your Monday morning commute or your first coffee break of the week. So get yourself comfortable, pour a cup of coffee – or tea – and enjoy this week’s reads!

What have I been up to this week

I have been struggling to get the Weekly Reads out every Monday and pushed them to Tuesday/Wednesday. While I cannot say it has been only pure busyness with work and studying, as spring is settling in, I found myself wanting to enjoy the time out and in the sun as much as possible over the weekends. Last weekend was incredibly good; warm, sunny and enjoyable and we spent the days enjoying the sun and the city.

Also, with this good weather, I love my spring uniform. I finally started wearing this linen trench coat I got at H&M over three years ago and I love it. Just add some loafers, black pants/favourite jeans, a pretty blouse and a bag and I can easily switch it up for both work and play.

The Weekly Reads

Wireless. I haven’t been converted to wireless earphones yet, I am here to tell you that you should switch and more specifically switch to AirPods. Apple has released its second-generation AirPods last month and they come with quite some more battery life. You can read all about it here or simply go buy them. Also, my review of the AirPods is also on the blog and you can read it here.

Cooking made simple. I am a lover of snacking and pretending I am cooking. Cooking means for me putting together 5-10 snack ingredients on a plate or in a pan and call it a meal. If you give me recipes How to cook with 10 ingredients or less. Bon Apetit is perfect for that … and it’s also just a joy to scroll through the website because it has beautiful design; I can’t wait to try the Carrot Cake recipe.

Building a great culture. Gary Vee shares some advice on how to build great culture in companies and I couldn’t agree more; if only all organizations were aware of this.

“When you have an employee that makes all the other employees miserable, fire them. Even if he or she is your top salesperson, your best developer, or even your cofounder.

If tell your people that you care about them, but you “look the other way” when certain employees are mean to everyone else, you’re sending a very clear message.”

How to be a manager. Career Contessa rounded up advice on managing people directly from the people who’ve been there and done that. Successful women share their advice and what they consider is the foundation of being a better manager, from practicing quiet leadership to being transparent and kepping the communication open.

Skincare. I found myself in the need of getting a new moisturizer and the first place I go for advice to is The Skincare Edit. It’s my favourite skin care blog and I absolutely love it, so if you need some inspiration this is the place to go to.

Thank you for reading and I hope you are having a great week!
