Welcome to the Weekly Reads, where I highlight articles that I found on the web and that are focused on career advice, lifestyle, beauty or anything I think would round-up as useful for the young, modern, working woman. Just get yourself comfortable, pour a cup of coffee – or tea – and enjoy this week’s reads!
What have I been up to this week
Last week has been pretty busy in terms of work and I am pretty sure I have ended up working 60+ hours. The overloaded, hectic work weeks I have been having for the past couple of months are starting to get felt, especially in my ability to disconnect and fully relax. So over the weekend, I did my best to slow down as much as I could so I can unwind a little and be able to gather forces for yet another hectic week.
On another note, I also managed to squeeze three workouts last week (my goal currently is to work out 3-4 times a week) and to my surprise I have to admit that I now prefer working out in the morning – this cannot be me! You just get up, show up, push through and then you get it out of the way!
What about you, how was your week/weekend?
The Weekly Reads
Speaking up for yourself. This article from Career Contessa is so good and I can definitely relate to it thinking of my promotion talk story. At the end of the day, nobody else but you will advocate for yourself and the sooner we all start doing this, the better. So next time you are in a feedback/review discussion, performance review or any other situation where you need to speak for yourself, prepare and just go for it.
There is nothing like the sweet relief you feel after a challenging conversation.
Morning routines. I am a fan of reading morning routines of successful people. There is just something about it that makes me feel inspired. Man Repeller’s take on it is a bit different and on a more comic note, but it’s definitely a cool read.
Workout clothes. Since I have been quite consistent with working out for the last 3+ months, I recently also updated my workout wardrobe with a few pieces for summer – like this top – and I love it. Working out in cute clothes definitely makes things better and since I did not want to splurge I resorted to H&M as it has very affordable and quite good in my opinion workout clothes.
Advice for first time managers. Transitioning to a manager role usually makes for a challenging journey and it’s never quite complete. I love reading advice on the topic and more precisely concrete and actionable advice. At the end of the day, it’s a matter of also valuing the learning process.
Interview. Loved reading about this duo of women and founders of Of a Kind shop. It’s always inspiring to read other people’s stories and their entrepreneurship journey already has me following them on Instagram.
Thank you for reading and I hope you are having great start into the week!
