Welcome to the Weekly Reads, where I highlight articles that I found on the web and that are focused on career advice, lifestyle, beauty or anything I think would round-up as useful for the young, modern, working woman. Just get yourself comfortable, pour a cup of coffee – or tea – and enjoy this week’s reads!
What have I been up to this week
I am now back in the office, and this is week is the first full week. Honestly, all I can say is that holidays are so good and so needed. Seriously. I can’t imaging not taking a break in the past weeks and still going on strong.
So if you haven’t had a break in a while, please do yourself a favour and book 1-2 weeks off. You will get some rest, do more of what you love and come back to the office managing your projects with more ease. I promise!
The Weekly Reads
Resume Template. Stay tuned for a post coming out this week. I will be sharing my top tips for writing your CV and also a free template that I have shared with my friends and also used myself. Don’t miss out!
How to lead effective meetings. Common sense advice but I feel it’s good to read it every now and then to make sure you stay on track and….well, don’t waste people’s time.
How to give constructive criticism without making it awkward. Giving feedback is truly an art. I am still at the start of my “managerial” journey and I am always looking for tips and knowledge to soak in. Loved this take from Allison at Ask A Manager and how it covered so many important points, from avoiding the “feedback sandwich” to always keeping in mind the context.
[…] you probably want to know how you could improve your work and wouldn’t appreciate someone withholding important feedback from you out of fear of awkwardnes. [… ] Assume that whoever you need to deliver feedback to also appreciates knowing how to make their work better.
Time for a tidy up. This post from Brunch on Chestnut is so good. I too feel like decluttering – from digital, to clothing and home – can bring so much good and peace of mind. And isn’t fall the perfect time for that?
The Plaid Blazer. I think it’s happening. I have resisted getting an oversized plaid blazer ever since it’s been “in” but looking at the gorgeous styles H&M came up with this fall, I think I cannot resist any longer. I am doubting between this one and this one.
How to manage a career shift. Interesting article from Career Contessa if you are up for a change and are not aware of all the possibilities. Maybe you’re burned out, or maybe all you need is to simply start a side hustle or maybe you should actually change industries. It’s a must to thoroughly evaluate what options are available to you.
Thank you for reading and I hope you are having a great week!
