Weekly Reads – March 8th

Happy International Women’s Day! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful day and celebrated yourselves, even if just a little. I am off work this week and today is also a holiday in Berlin – yes, Berlin adopted IWD as a public holiday! I am looking forward to not doing much this week, just reading, studying a little, and resting.

The Weekly Reads

Soft skills. I often think that soft skills are often the toughest to get across but also the glue that helps round up a good candidate’s profile. Career Contessa brings you some tips on how to thoughtfully add your soft skills to your resume. The trick is to “learn to tell a good story wherever—and whenever—you can. Not only does it inform and color your soft skillsets, but it also makes for an interesting read (because let’s face it, resumes can be boring).”

Salary research. As I was doing some salary research in Berlin for the positions that I am interested in, I came across PayScale, a fresh website that gives you key salary information by country, job title, experience, and skills. Truly a gift from the gods.

Getting back on track with budgeting. A real story to learn from and take tips from. Financial “stability” and peace of mind is something very near and dear to me so getting new tips is never doign harm.

Money talk. Or how five young people (US-based) actually invest and make money in the stock market. I love peeking into other people’s money business on the internet, and this post didn’t disappoint. Investing in the stock market is something I’ve only recently started doing and I am of course fascinated to see what other people do.

+ What I am reading. What a better fitting read for this month and day than “Woman – An Intimate Geography” by Natalie Angier. A perfectly balanced mix between female biology, psychology, anthropology, and more about what it means to be a woman. It cuts through myths and misinformation surrounding the female body and brings a witty yet clear understanding of all intricacies of womanhood. Currently only about a third in but I’m totally loving it!

+ What I am watching. I recently watched “I care a lot” on Netflix with Rosamund Pike, and I totally loved it. It served a good amount of fashion – loved all the suits – and it made me realize I need to cut my hair short again.

Once again, Happy International Women’s Day to my fellow strong, brave, kind & inspiring women that I have the privilege to connect with, in this small community of ours. May you always rise to the occasion of being a woman with fierceness, strength, kindness & boldness! 💫

Thank you for reading and I hope you are having a wonderful day and week!
